Membership

St. Leonard's Church has a four-part (SATB) choir affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) consisting of a Junior section - twenty boys and girls, and twenty adults. The junior choristers participate in the RSCM Voice for Life training scheme and are encouraged to work for the Dean's Award of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

One highlight in the choral year is the annual Carols by Candlelight service held on Christmas Eve. With the church full to capacity, we celebrate the birth of Christ with a special service of readings and carols.

The choir strives to achieve high standards of choral singing and is rapidly gaining a good reputation. It occasionally sings at services in Southwell Minster (the Diocesan Cathedral) when the Minster choir are on holiday. It also participates in the Diocesan Choral Festivals (see below). The choir has performed concerts in different churches within the diocese and regularly receives invitations to sing in other cathedrals and places of worship.

New Members

The choir is always seeking new members. Like many choirs, we suffer from a shortage of tenors. They tend to be a rare breed! We would welcome new members in all sections of the choir at any time. If you are interested in joining, please come along to a choir practice (Friday evenings in church) or contact the Director of Music, Peter Price. In addition we occasionally run special workshops for training purposes and to learn new music.
