Music Group

Do you sing or play an instrument? Would you like to join a group of musicians to help lead worship?

We aim to provide alternative music styles and to enhance less formal worship.

This also involves introducing young people to playing and singing with a group and working in partnership with the choir and music director at major festivals.

The group includes keyboard and guitar players, with various combinations of percussion, wind and stringed instruments. Numerous young people have passed through the group, playing their instruments with enthusiasm and learning new styles of music. We are keen to recruit players and singers of all ages.

The Music Group currently leads the singing at the Parish Eucharist on the 3rd Sunday in each month. Practices are held in church at 4.30 p.m. on the 2nd Sunday in the month. The current music includes worship songs and hymns, as well as music from Taizé and Iona, and we shall be trying other options in the future.

The Future

We hope that there will be further opportunities for the Group to lead worship in the future. To this end, St Leonard’s is looking at ways of developing shared worship, and seeking ways of involving both the choir and the music group in major festivals, and special services. We are also expanding our repertoire by exploring alternative songbooks and styles of music, which we hope will attract a wider membership.

All this represents a challenge for the months to come. If you would like to take up this challenge, please contact the Parish Office, who will put you in touch with one of the Group’s leaders.
