Wollaton Care Group

The organisation was established in 1974. It is community based, but a large number of the members (volunteers) are connected with churches in Wollaton, as are some of the clients. The Care Group exists for lonely, elderly and disabled people in the area co-terminus with the parish of Wollaton, and to help clients to stay in their own homes as long as possible.

It has four main areas of work:

  • Visitors, based in a small, localised part of the district, call on lonely or housebound people and also keep in touch by an occasional phone call for a friendly chat. Visitors distribute flowers at Easter, greetings cards at Christmas.
  • There are two weekly Luncheon Clubs, on Wednesdays in St Leonard's Community Centre, Bramcote Lane and on Thursdays in the Wollaton Vale Community Centre. Social Services provide the meal which clients pay for.
  • There are several outings each year to interesting local places. Transport is provided and either lunch or tea is arranged. There is a Christmas luncheon outing each year.
  • Two coffee mornings each year are an excellent social occasion for helpers and clients alike. This is the main source of fund-raising.

Financial support also comes from Social Services but application has to be made at seemingly frequent intervals!
